07.10.10

these books all mean something specific for me on a deeply personal level- and part of their value, is the memory of the excitement that i had when i first picked them up and went a couple of pages in
because not all books are great
some are just good
and others are life changing
finding those books, the search is part of the pleasure

lovers

"Love is a temporary madness. It erupts like an earthquake and then subsides. And when it subsides you have to make a decision. You have to work out whether your roots have become so entwined together that it is inconceivable that you should ever part. Because this is what love is. Love is not breathlessness, it is not excitement, it is not the promulgation of promises of eternal passion. That is just being "in love" which any of us can convince ourselves we are. Love itself is what is left over when being in love has burned away, and this is both an art and a fortunate accident. Your mother and I had it, we had roots that grew towards each other underground, and when all the pretty blossom had fallen from our branches we found that we were one tree and not two."

UCLA jazzREGGAE fest 2010

this year i was lucky enough to participate in the UCLA jazz reggae festival

[thanks to my mother hen, Kelsey Mitchell]

I was so humbled to be painting with Ryan Bubion and Teebs, along side Mear One.
Lately i haven't had a chance to express myself creatively, but this was a spiritual awakening.

"let the beauty you love be what you do. There are a thousand ways to kneel and kiss the earth"
