new chapters

"With the secure, with the familiar you are bored; you start becoming dull. With the insecure, with the unknown, the uncharted, you feel ecstatic, beautiful, again a child — again those eyes of wonder,
again that heart which can feel the awe of things is there." -Osho

ONE day on EARTH

11.11.11

One Day on Earth started in September of 2008 with the goal of creating a unique worldwide media event where thousands of participants would simultaneously film over a 24-hour period. The idea for the project was conceived while watching musicians from very different regions of the world collaborate on stage at the opening night of the 2008 World festival of Sacred Music. Their initial attempts to create music together were awkward, and it was clear that they had never collaborated prior to this moment. Eventually though, over the period of a couple minutes, what was disharmony became harmony, and a beautiful fusion of music came together for the first time. The moment inspired a similar vision for another universal form of communication—cinema.

Cyd Charisse

#powerlesbians.
( if you know me, you know that i use that phrase a lot. i guess its my way of classifying inspirational women)

Cyd Charisse is arguably the greatest female dancer in Hollywood history.
she recovered from polio, studied ballet, and began starring in films.
she was awarded the National Medal of the Arts and Humanities, the highest official U.S. honor available in the arts.

...a captivating dancer, a femme fatale, a #powerlesbians.

sawyers in Muir woods

this weekend i took my family to Muir Woods. it was the perfect day hike. we had a blast getting lost and finding our way back. one thing i love about living in SF  is you can drive 30 minutes outside of the city and you end up smack dab in the middle of a forrest of redwoods.

serendipitous

serendipitous : [n.] 1. The faculty of making fortunate discoveries by accident.

today i was enjoying a beautiful sunny sunday in the park, an oddity for san francisco in the summer. the stern grove has free concerts in the park every sunday between now and mid august.

As i spent the afternoon dancing the funky chicken and the mashed potato to the funk/soul music of miss sharon jones and the dap kings, i caught a glimpse of a t-shirt that i designed for juxtapoz magazine. Believe me, as a designer, you KNOW when you see your design. you also know what font everything is in, who made the original of this and that, what photoshop effects were used, when you see fonts that should be immediately dragged to your trashcan used and you can't help but cringe. some consider it a curse, but most consider it a blessing ;)

in a trance, i gravitated towards the gentleman that was wearing the shirt, tapped him on the shoulder and blurted out "HEY! i designed that shirt!" confused... he said "this shirt?!?" then realizing how weird that was of me to walk up to him and say that... i started laughing and said YEAH! we exchanged some laughs, he gave me some beer, and as an artist/designer it was the most rewarding feeling. to see someone random wearing something you created because they genuinely like it...priceless :)
enjoy the photos!
